Who are we?
We are a small business with a focus on high-quality and unique wooden gifts located in Central Michigan. Our handcrafted wooden goods are crafted with care to celebrate creativity, nature, cozy living, and the simple joy of working with your hands! Whether you are preserving blooms, labeling veggies in the garden, or serving up a homemade loaf of bread, our wooden gifts are created to help inspire moments of creativity and mindful living in your everyday life.
Our Story:
In 2018, we started making decor and furniture together in our spare time as a shared hobby and a way to connect after our busy days apart. We were fresh out of college, living in a rental in Kokomo, Indiana and you could say the space we had to indulge in hobbies was limited. Despite this, we decided to create a makeshift maker-space in our laundry room...It was a bit cramped and REALLY dusty but we had ambition and a dream was inspired!
After a bit of experimentation, we began selling our creations on marketplace, at a few local craft shows and eventually we began selling on Etsy.
2021 brought a lot of changes for our family both good and bad. We married (after spending 11 wonderful years together), found out we were welcoming a sweet baby girl into the world and our family was faced with some serious decisions to make as Greg was let go from his job as a result of mass layoffs.After some thought, a whole lot of courage and the support of family, We decided to take a leap and try to turn our hobby we had been so passionate about over the years into our full-time job. So, we (and not without struggle) rebranded and filed for our LLC in 2021 and Macon Makes was established!
Since our humble beginnings in our rental home laundry room, we have grown both as people and makers. (And now have a small workshop!) We have lived in many places throughout the Midwest (Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan), adopted two wonderfully crazy rescue dogs and have welcomed two beautiful babies into the world. Macon Makes has been apart of our lives through it all. Creating items together is one of our collective passions and I imagine it will continue to be for the rest of our lives!
